Lady Midnight Review

Cassandra Clare fans had to wait a bit to get this book and it did not disappoint. This book was a beautifully written story about love, loss, betrayal and forbidden love. I was at a loss of words through this book and even now writing this review I am having a hard time coming up with exactly how to explain this book!

This book follows the children in the Los Angeles Institute. It had been five years since the Dark War and they're still struggling to make everything right. The two main characters are Julian Blackthorn and Emma Carstairs who are parabatai and both orphaned. Julian has four younger brothers and sisters to take care of and an uncle who has his fair share of problems. Through the rest of the book, Julian and Emma are thrown into a mystery only to be betrayed by someone they hold close to them. The end of the book was crazy and full of action just like Clare's books always are.

There was almost nothing I didn't like about this book. I felt the character's were extremely developed and even a little more developed than what you would get with a first person point of view. You knew exactly what Julian and Emma were thinking about all the time, and you don't get that with many third person pov. The setting, which is Los Angeles as stated above, seemed absolutely stunning and I wanted to jump into the book to see what these characters got to see. I did feel some characters were out of place with the book though. I didn't fully get their roll in the book and I did feel one part of the ending was very rushed and just in your face. You definitely won't expect what happens. Overall, Cassandra Clare has stunned all her fans and wrote another breathtaking novel.

I would recommend reading her other series, The Mortal Instruments and The Infernal Devices,  before this one if you have not read any of her books before.

The Mortal Instrument Series:
City of Bones
City of Ashes
City of Glass
City of Fallen Angels
City of Lost Souls
City of Heavenly Fire

The Infernal Devices:
Clockwork Angel
Clockwork Prince
Clockwork Princess
