Siege and Storm (Grisha #2)

I know this book is apart of a series so I am not going to give away and spoilers. This will be more of a short review on my opinion on how the book played out.

This book was definitely a whirlwind. The first book was paced out very well but the second book lost a lot of the even pacing. For almost the whole book, nothing went on. You would miss almost nothing if you skipped the whole book except for the last 20 pages or so. I do understand that sometimes a sequel is not as good as its first book, but this didn't compare to the first book. It also goes in a huge circle and the main character is battling with herself over the same thing throughout the whole book. She is also extremely wishy-washy which only drags the book out longer and made me extremely frustrated. The ending was extremely explosive and I got some of the action I was yearning for throughout the whole book. It didn't make up for everything though and I'm hoping the third book, which I am currently reading, will be a little more interesting.

Paper Towns - Review

Paper Towns - Novel Review
In Paper Towns Quentin, "Q", and Margo, as young kids, find the body of a man that had committed suicide in the park. After this happened the book flashes forward to present day when they're in high school. About a month or so before graduation Margo climbs into Q's window and approaches him asking to borrow his mother's van and needing his help. She needed his help with a mission that had eleven parts. This mission was to seek revenge on some people who had hurt her and things she had always wanted to do. Now I'm not going to tell you what they were but they were very good and interesting.
Q and Margo hadn't been friends since they started high school and Q wondered if their mission that night changed their relationship back to close friends. But the day after Margo doesn't show up to school. She doesn't show up to school the day after that either. So Q goes on a scavenger hunt and finds a piece of paper in his door hinge. The scavenger hunt entails him trying to find Margo's whereabouts. So Q asks Margo's little sister to go in Margo's room and they find other clues. And after they find these clues Q and his friends decide to follow each and every clue and along the way they meet some people that Margo know and they give them some information about where she may be. After she has been missing for a month Q and his friends finally find where she may be and they decide to skip graduation. They drive for a very very long time to this destination, now I won't tell you where they went or what this place is called because its fun to keep you waiting and it makes you want to read the book even more. Do they find her? I won't tell you that part so you'll just have to read it yourself!
Paper Towns - Film Review
Now that you know about this plot, I can tell you about the differences in the film. In the novel they do break into a place that they shouldn't have and they get caught. Now in the film, they don't even break in, it's never even mentioned. There were nine parts to the mission in the film and there were eleven in the novel. At the end of the film a romance buds between Q and Margo in the film and Margo never liked Q like that in the novel (though Q had a large crush on her in both the novel and the film.) They go to Costco in the film and Wal-Mart in the novel for supplies for the mission. In the film Q and his friends never come across the people who know Margo like they do in the novel. There are some other differences I haven't mentioned but I hope you find them yourself!

This was the second book I had ever read by John Green and I liked it even better than The Fault in Our Stars, which was the first book I had read by him, and I have to be honest with you. I saw the movie first which I loved. And then by reading the book I noticed all of the differences and I talked about all of them with Elle. I give the novel five out of five stars and I give the film three and a half out of five stars.

Passenger Review

Passenger by Alexandra Bracken has been one of the most anticipated books of the year for so many people, including myself. I'm sure most people have heard of it by now, so I'm just going to jump right into my thoughts and review for this book.

This book takes a lot of commitment and concentration to become immersed in this world. The writing is absolutely beautiful, but it's lacking in some parts. The world to which Passenger is based in is a very complicated one with a lot of  small things that connect for a overall big picture. The world building in this book is absolutely stunning. You see what the characters are seeing and you feel like if you look up you'll be there, too. I feel there was so much focus on the world building that we lost some character building. You don't find out a lot of what is going on and why until later on in the book. That is what tends to make this book boring and hard to get through because not only is the character in the dark about what's going on, the reader is also in the dark about what's going on. There are little clues about what's going on but you don't find out until about page 200. If you can make it to there, the plot really takes off and you're left in a whirlwind of adventure and betrayal.

Looking For Alaska - Review

Looking For Alaska by John Green is by far my favorite book ever written by him. Now this is one of his earlier books and I am just a tad late jumping on this band wagon but, better late than never!
A boy named Miles, aka Pudge, goes off to boarding school that his family has been attending for many generations. Pudge wasn't a party goer or a smoker or drinker but you will come to find out, this changes very soon after he gets to school. Pudge shares a room with Chip, aka Colonel, and they soon become best friends. Colonel then introduces Pudge to Alaska.
Pudge was blown away by Alaska. He thought she was gorgeous, funny, unique, free-spirited, outgoing and just Alaska. Alaska was always breaking and bending the rules. Alaska was always working on a new prank to prank people and always had Pudge and Colonel in on it but always covered for them so she was the only one who got in trouble. Alaska was someone who was always showing her emotions. If she was angry you knew about it. If she was sad you knew about it. Alaska also smoked cigarettes and drank a lot and her drinking influenced some decisions that were made in the book. Especially a major part in the book. Just be prepared. You may need tissues. Anyway, she also led Pudge on. Pudge had a large, huge, ginormous, crush on Alaska and she led him on extremely badly. Alaska had a boyfriend for the entire book by the way.
After an extremely unexpected plot twist Pudge was left extremely heart broken. He and Colonel were lost for a little while there. Then they wonder if this plot twist was an accident or if it was actually planned. So they do a little investigating and they find out whether or not it was planned or an accident (no I will not tell you so you'll just have to read it yourself!) and they all have some sort of closure toward the end of the book. They carry a legacy on and make many people proud.
I absolutely loved this book. There is nothing I would change about this book! I give this book five out of five stars!

I Was Here - Review

I Was Here was the first book I have ever read of Gayle Forman's books. And let me tell you; I could not put this book down. This book contains content about depression and suicide, just to forewarn anyone that is interested in reading this book.
After a tragic event, Cody goes off to find clues about her best friend, Meg's, suicide. Now at first I was a little confused because Cody's character seemed to be portrayed as a male but, I assure you Cody is a female character in this book (it took me about three chapters to figure this out Cody knew this wasn't like her best friend and she needed to know more about what was going on in Meg's head up until the weeks, even months, before her passing.
Cody goes to Meg's college and finds some things that she finds rather abnormal and along the way she makes friends where she never even thought she could. Cody, with the help of her new friends, crack encrypted files on Meg's computer. But Cody doesn't think finding this is enough. She goes home and researches for many things she finds in these files and even poses as someone she isn't. Along with one of her new friends, Cody goes on an adventure per-say to talk to someone who played a role in Meg's suicide. But soon to find out this person had some unexpected baggage Cody never thought the person would've had. Cody and her new friend become so angry that, well, they relieved their tension in the hotel room that night. And I was quite shocked Cody did this with the person she traveled with. But in the end everyone got their closure, mostly Cody, because Meg's parents weren't too shocked, which is very sad to me.
I absolutely loved this book and I cannot wait to read another one of Gayle Forman's books. I have no complaints about this book! I give this book five out of five stars! This book reminds me of a crime show that I could binge watch and never get sick of and it left me wanting more at the end! I hope this review was alright for my first!

Illuminae Review

Illuminae sky rocketed into book fame when it was released late last year. This book held many readers captive until the very end and they were left begging for more. On YouTube this was all anyone could talk about and on Goodreads it holds a 4.3 star rating. Overall, this book has almost no bad reviews. But, I didn't love this book and I am going against the grain with most people. This has absolutely nothing to do with the authors so this will not be a bashing session.

I didn't like quite a few things about this book but I feel it was more a fault of my own than of the book itself. I am not a huge science fiction fan. I prefer more fantasy, dystopian, some paranormal, and contemporary. This book is very much based around a science fiction idea with space ships and other attributes that make something science fiction. I didn't do my research on this book to actually know what kind of genre it was. I saw it on YouTube and thought the cover was pretty so I went out and bought it. Not the wisest decision ever made but I know I'm not the only person who has ever done that. Characters fell a little flat for me, also. While Kady was admirably brave in what she had to do to save other people, I felt as a reader that I never got to know her as a character. In general, we couldn't get close to many characters because they would end up being killed of in a number of pages. I know these book are meant to be fast paced but there was just too much killing for me to keep up with and that kept me distant from the book. One huge compliment about this book that I must give is the writing style. The whole book was told in I.M's, interviews, journal entries, and the point of view of the surveillance man. It creates this unique reading experience and you feel like you are going through these files and trying to figure out what has been going on and why. I do prefer normal writing style than this type but it did help me like this book a little bit more.

This book really is for anyone who loves space and mystery and a rouge computer out to destroy the world. This genre isn't for me but obviously plenty of people have had nothing but amazing reviews for this book.

3 Stars

Lady Midnight Review

Cassandra Clare fans had to wait a bit to get this book and it did not disappoint. This book was a beautifully written story about love, loss, betrayal and forbidden love. I was at a loss of words through this book and even now writing this review I am having a hard time coming up with exactly how to explain this book!

This book follows the children in the Los Angeles Institute. It had been five years since the Dark War and they're still struggling to make everything right. The two main characters are Julian Blackthorn and Emma Carstairs who are parabatai and both orphaned. Julian has four younger brothers and sisters to take care of and an uncle who has his fair share of problems. Through the rest of the book, Julian and Emma are thrown into a mystery only to be betrayed by someone they hold close to them. The end of the book was crazy and full of action just like Clare's books always are.

There was almost nothing I didn't like about this book. I felt the character's were extremely developed and even a little more developed than what you would get with a first person point of view. You knew exactly what Julian and Emma were thinking about all the time, and you don't get that with many third person pov. The setting, which is Los Angeles as stated above, seemed absolutely stunning and I wanted to jump into the book to see what these characters got to see. I did feel some characters were out of place with the book though. I didn't fully get their roll in the book and I did feel one part of the ending was very rushed and just in your face. You definitely won't expect what happens. Overall, Cassandra Clare has stunned all her fans and wrote another breathtaking novel.

I would recommend reading her other series, The Mortal Instruments and The Infernal Devices,  before this one if you have not read any of her books before.

The Mortal Instrument Series:
City of Bones
City of Ashes
City of Glass
City of Fallen Angels
City of Lost Souls
City of Heavenly Fire

The Infernal Devices:
Clockwork Angel
Clockwork Prince
Clockwork Princess
